Do you remember?

Do you remember these...?

Banana Hair Clips!

I wore one of these almost everyday in the late 1980's and absolutely loved them!

I had one of every color to match my every outfit!

And the girl with the long, stringy hair would look like
she had a mane of beautiful, golden, thick locks of hair!

Well, I found one in the back of a drawer this weekend....

Immediate JOY!

I have been having some "hair" dilemma's.
One of my adult sons looked at my hair the other day and said,
"Mom, what is going on with your hair?
It kinda looks like you got business in front
and party in the back..."
(For anyone who doesn't know, that is the way to refer to
a Mullet hair do.)

and then,
Blake Shelton sent Kelly Clarkson a tweet that said he would get rid of his
M.C. Hammer pants if she would get rid of her mullet....

So today when I got ready for work,
I began to unmulletize my hair without a total hair makeover.

I like my long locks and even though my mom always said that women over 40 shouldn't have long hair....

Well I am over 50 and my hair is as long if not longer than it has ever been in my whole life!

So back to the beginning.

I got that banana clip out and swooped my hair right up,
did the smooth back the bangs
and proudly displayed my
mane of golden locks!

So begins my new fashion trend of bringing back the
BANANA CLIP!!!

For all of you post banana clip users, who still have enough hair to swoop...
then go find you a banana clip and start swooping!

Send Pics!
I would love to see your beautiful manes!

My Friend

This is a very dear friend of mine.  Not only is she my friend,
she is a daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and most importantly...
she is a "Nonny"!

I thought I had the best grandma ever...
and to me at the time...
she was absolutely the best grandma ever!

I don't have grandchildren yet but when I do,
I hope to have just a bit of the dedication and love this
"Nonny"
exemplifies for her children grandchildren.

My biggest hope  for all of you, "Nonny's" out there is that
your children appreciate the woman you are,

your children teach their children to appreciate the sacrifices of

LOVE,

TIME,

and

SELF.

As mothers and grandmothers,
we thrive on putting our children and their needs first.

I hope in our world today
we don't lose sight of these loving sacrifices
and don't forget to say
"Thanks"
at the end of the day!

For anyone who knows me....
you know that qualifies him for sainthood!
My Saint Valentine!

accountability

Friday fotos will be delayed because I think all of the unborn children in this area were born today.
Which essentially means I didn't sit down at work today....but the good news is

Today is Friday!
Super Bowl Weekend coming up!

The title of today's blog is
ACCOUNTABILITY

I really think that if you have someone to be accountable to many goals can be reached!

That's why I was so excited about getting a text from a dear friend who is also struggling with the fat virus.

But we are in this together!

   and
we can do this!
So the rest of you veggie eating, skinny friends out there...
pray for us!
encourage us!
and help us avoid temptations!

A cake very similar to this was left in the nursing lounge for us at work today.
Left over from another nurse's birthday.
I do love me some birthday cake with icing...the good crisco icing...
not this fluffy icing they put on cakes now!
My mouth was watering, almost drooling like my dog.
 Miracle--I RESISTED!
Walked away.

And now as I crawl into bed
I stayed under 1200 calories today!

Watch out...I already feel skinnier!

And how was your day?

Thursday, February 2, 2012

talk about it thursday...

Wordless Wednesday was a pic of actual FAT!

Growing up as a child I was SKINNY!

When I got married, I was SKINNY!

After I had my first baby, I was fairly SKINNY!

After I had my second baby, I was still, fairly SKINNY!

At the age of 37,
in a period of two months...

I went from

fairly SKINNY

to

fairly FAT.

Some physical things happened from November 1997
to
January 1998

and I have never been the same since.

Now

all two of my followers out there have only known me in the shape (literally)
that I am now.

but
in my mind...
I AM STILL SKINNY!

Unfortunately, the mirror and my clothes sizes have another version.

And then there is the argument that I just don't eat healthy.

That argument might hold water if this whole fat thing had happened over time, but it didn't.
It happened in TWO MONTHS!

For the past 15 years of my life i have fought this FAT virus,
as I will call it.

FAT virus has robbed joy from my life.

I don't like being FAT.

I have tried every diet out there that excludes eating vegetables and salads.
They work temporarily.
Short term at the best.
I have never returned to that special number on my scales that puts me back in the skinny group.
I go up and down from
 fairly FAT
 to
bigger than I really should be FAT
 to
it had to be the 3 cartons of egg nog I drank over the holidays FAT.
I have gained
 12pounds
since the first of December, putting me back to a record high!

Okay, okay...I can hear all of you veggie lover, salad eaters out there right now, saying,
"Well its obvious why you are FAT...you eat all the wrong things."
Well...maybe I don't eat all the wrong things.
I have totally stopped drinking diet coke and drink somewhere between 75- 90 ounces of water a day.

We have essentially eliminated red meat from our diet,
(thanks to the uric acid crystals which keep accumulating in my husband's
joints causing significant pain for him and irritation for me...
I have to take care of him).

We rarely eat out anymore, and thanks to Pinterest,
I have found about 10 new recipes for how to make chicken taste just a little different this time.

And I don't want to hear the line,
"oh, you're a nurse, you should eat better..."
Do you really think your profession changes your taste buds???

Bottom Line...
I started another diet yesterday.

It is not
 weight watchers,
south beach,
jenny craig
nutra system,
blood type,
or any of the all too familiar ones we all have tried and failed.

It is the
ROBIN doesn't want to be fat anymore diet
and you all are my accountability partners.

Here are my declarations for this project:

I will eat less.  (portion control)
I will eat less sugar and foods which turn into sugar on my rear.
I will do something everyday or at least 5 days a week that raises my heart rate in order to burn more calories.
I will eat a little less bacon.
And if I do have a bad day and break all of the above declarations...
I will admit my guilt and look at myself in the mirror naked
and say three times.
YOU ARE FAT.
YOU ARE FAT
YOU ARE FAT.

So all of you,
(not my two followers) overweight, exercising, vegetarian salad eaters...
and you know they are out there,
I am going to get back to SKINNY, eating my
white, colorless food with a dash of bacon....just to show you
I can!

looking  forward to Friday Fotos....
